Get to know me.
After high school, I started a pre-med program since I wanted to become a pediatrician. I remember vividly the day when I was walking down the street and heard the voice of God saying, “I am calling you to become a different type of doctor.” I understood what that meant, and I transferred to Harvest Bible University where I received my theology degree. I’ve had the privilege of helping plant two churches in Los Angeles with the Vineyard movement and have produced two Spanish albums with Vineyard Music.
When I was young, I used to be upset that I didn’t have a “testimony” like other people. Then I realized that my testimony is that I’ve grown up in the church and have seen the good, the bad, and the ugly – and have survived. When a lot of my peers were leaving the church, I made the choice to stay and make a difference by striving to become a servant leader, there for people and not there to take advantage of them.
I have a strong desire to see people come to Christ, not just attend church, and be transformed into true disciples of Jesus who seek to disciple others and make a difference in our city and our world. I consider myself a bridge-builder and long to see people of different ethnicities, ages, and socioeconomic status come together as a kingdom community that represents the diversity of Heaven here on earth.
I was born and raised in Los Angeles and moved to the San Fernando Valley when I was 10 years old. I’ve certainly developed a heart for Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley. I am a third-generation follower of Jesus; my grandparents from both sides were pastors and church planters. I came to Christ as a young boy and by the grace of God continued in His path, having the privilege of leading in different ministries: children’s church, youth group, small groups, worship ministries, and in church administration.
After saying “yes” to Jesus in the summer of 1981, the most significant date of my life is May 20, 2000, when I said “I do” to loving and committing to my beautiful wife Ali for life. In the process, God has blessed us with two children, our son Jacob born in 2010, and our daughter Jada born in 2015. I really enjoy spending time with them, reading good theological books, and rooting for the LA Lakers.
